Some day I will learn not to blog on my I-Pad, because I do silly things like click on “post” before I have written anything. I was trying to tell you all about a terrific fundraiser at the Madison County Arts Center in Marshall, N.C. on Saturday night. We saw some of the best fiddlers in the business like Bobby Hicks, Arvil Freeman, Roger Howell. They volunteered their time to raise funds and awareness of preservation of Appalachian music by performing two shows on Saturday.
Also volunteering: Emma Best, Jake and Sarah Owen, The Sons of Ralph (Don and Marty with Dad Ralph Lewis), Leonard Hollifield, Kathryn Parham, Jerry Sutton, Carol Rifkin, Laura Boosinger, to name a few. Emma Best sang one of the sweetest versions of “Orphan Girl” that I have ever heard. There was a traditional dance performed by Board Member Rodney Sutton. The man can dance.
The talent list goes on and I know I am missing names; I hope folks who were there will chime in and complete the list. To top off the evening, we had Lib Robert’s homemade banana puddin’ which cannot be beat!
Here is a link to a nice number with TRIPLE FIDDLES featuring Arvil Freeman, Emma McDowell Best and her brother Bryan McDowell, Leonard Hollifield, and Laura Boosinger.
