Are you a Slow Food member? It’s the antithesis of fast food. You may want to check it out. The organization is a non-profit and worth investigating if you want to learn more about food grown where you live. In their words: Slow Food is an idea, a way of living and a way of eating. It is a global, grassroots movement with thousands of members around the world that links the pleasure of food with a commitment to community and the environment.
Slow Food has two really interesting events coming up in Chicago. One is called “Farm Together Now” and it is a potluck supper and discussion with an author. The other is “Little Bee, Big Mystery” at the Notebaert Nature Museum. That one is a series about bees and what is happening to them. Here’s the link: http://www.slowfoodchicago.org/
If you live elsewhere and you are not a member of Slow Food, check it out. There are some great local food dinners, all around the country. Membership is reasonable, and many events are free or inexpensive. They have some remarkable chefs on board for the events, terrific education resources, farm tours, all kinds of stuff. http://www.slowfoodusa.org
You should probably mention this blog when you join. 😉
